So, on my lunch break Monday, I drove around MetroCenter (in Nashville) trying to get a better view of the Metro Water Treatment Plant in the Germantown area from the other side of the Interstate. I came across this interesting complex of buildings with neat architecture and some sort of huge air-conditioner something-or-other out back. So of course I snapped a few shots. And in the course of my little photo shoot, I was approached by a security guard who wanted to know why I was taking photos of private property. I told him that I was an artist, and this was for an art project I was doing. He seemed befuddled.
As soon as I got back to my desk, I tweeted about it, and pretty soon got a response from Andrew Duthie with a link to a downloadable flyer outlining photographer’s rights when stopped or confronted for photography. Nifty little tool. I’ll have to print several copies and keep them in my car in case that happens again. (And this was not the first time it’s happened, and it’ll probably happen again as long as I keep finding interesting stuff to shoot.)
