The Blog

And so it all begins…

About three years ago I started doing Photoshop collages that referenced stuff I was doing those days. They had scans of objects I had picked up here and there, such as fortune cookie fortunes combined with type, photos, and coffee shop doodles. I had recently read some books by Sabrina Ward Harrison, who does some really amazing visual journaling. I figured I would do the same thing, only in the digital medium. I did this for a month or so, then never got back to it.

Eventually I got the idea to put it online. I figured that might make me stick with it. I made it a goal to get it online by February 1, 2007. I obviously didn’t do it. The task of getting it into a CMS was daunting, and I couldn’t stand the idea of using some prepackaged theme. Oh sure, I did some fancy Photoshop mockups, but I was never quite happy with them. In the meantime, I redesigned my website and finally snagged the dot-com address. It occured to me that if I put any sort of vizjrnl online, it would have the same look as the rest of my new site. So I finally did it, basing the look and feel on the rest of bradblackman.com. Months after installing WordPress on my site, I’ve finally got it up and running this weekend, and it blends in seamlessly with the rest of the site.

At any rate, I will be adding new images soon, later on this week, probably in the form of scans from my sketchbook as well as a few photos here and there. I’m excited about it. Plus it’ll keep me motivated to actually produce something on a regular basis, especially if my posts generate some sort of conversation.
