Boot Country as it looks now

March 29th, 2011

Like a lot of other things I’ve painted, Boot Country has gotten a new look. It’s nice but it lacks the old charm.

Twenty-five: MetroCenter Aircoil

March 29th, 2011

An aircoil (whatever that is) in MetroCenter, just across the parking lot from Buildings B and E.

Updated Painting Reference Maps

March 28th, 2011

In which I update the Google Maps to show correct information regarding where I shot reference photos.

Twenty-four: Downtown Door 2

March 25th, 2011

Grungy brick and splitting plywood make this composition come alive.

Twenty-Three: Garage Rhythm

March 25th, 2011

The austerity of parking garages is delightfully broken up by various bits of dirt and buzzing fluorescent lights.

Twenty-two: Brentwood Sewer

March 25th, 2011

I’ve always been intrigued with secret, subterranean passageways. Sewers aren’t glamorous, but they hold the same intrigue. The rough, mildewy concrete and rusted iron are beautiful in their own right.

Twenty-one: Bellevue Pipe

March 25th, 2011

I lived in and around the Bellevue area close to eight years. Here is a painting pipe from a reservoir on Sawyer Brown Road.

Nineteen: Grounded

March 11th, 2011

A simple yet powerful composition with interesting colors and textures.

Eighteen: Building E

March 10th, 2011

An ominous sky and sharp angles on the architecture of this office building makes for a fun painting.

Seventeen: Rugged Wall and Column

March 9th, 2011

Small urban painting of a wooden column and a rugged wooden wall, in contrasting blue and orange tones.

What did I mess up on the Nabrico painting?

March 8th, 2011

Basically, I stitched together 3 photos, and didn’t overlap them quite enough. Here’s where I messed up, which I realized too late.

Making-of Video of painting of Hermitage Starbucks

March 7th, 2011

A few weeks ago I was commissioned to do a painting to be given as a wedding gift for a couple who had their first date at the Starbucks in Hermitage. This is the making-of video.

Looking forward to Podcamp Nashville 2011

February 28th, 2011

Podcamp Nashville 2011 is March 26, just under a month away. Here’s what it is and why you should go.

Sixteen: West Park

February 25th, 2011

Another small painting of an office building on West End Avenue. Except this time I think the name is “West Park.” It’s the same building where Outback Steakhouse is.

Fifteen: NaBriCo Building

February 23rd, 2011

Another view of the NaBriCo building on the Cumberland River, with a bonus. If you can spot the mistake I made in the drawing, you’ll win it!

Fourteen: NaBriCo Detail

February 22nd, 2011

A detail of a window awning on the Nabrico building on the riverfront.
