I’m a little late to the game on this as it’s mid-February at the time of this writing, but the idea of having theme words for the year has been incubating in my head since December, when I first became aware of people doing this. (Chris Brogan and Tina Mammoser have posted their 2010 words.)
It’s a good idea though, and only in the past week have I really arrived at anything. And the themes are:
- Follow-through
- Finish
These are two areas I lack in when it comes to personal projects and my career. All too often I have not followed through or followed up on career opportunities. And so many personal projects have gone unfinished.
So. My themes for the year are to follow through and to finish what I start. Both take effort, but with a little nudge to edge out the pesky “lizard brain” I can do it. It honestly doesn’t take much. Challenge the lizard brain just enough and it goes running off into a corner.

My word is Fortitude.
