The 30in30 Project

Day 3 of my Movember beard

Believe it or not, it’s November. To me it doesn’t seem like it should be even close to the end of the year, but like it or not, it’s here. Rather than be full of regret about the things I haven’t accomplished this year, I’m taking a note from the NaNoWriMo movement: instead of writing a 50,000-word novel in a month, I’m going to attempt 30 pieces of art for the month of November.

Originally, I wanted to do 30 daily paintings, but in between an ongoing 40-hour-a-week-on-site contract gig as well as various freelance design projects it’s just not feasible. So my goal is to complete thirty works of art this mornth, in whatever medium I desire for that day’s piece.

I thought about calling this 30x30, but that seems to have already been taken by artist Andrea Heimer who did thirty watercolors in thirty days, selling them for $30 each. A similar goal, but I want to avoid any kind of confusion, so I’m calling it “30in30.” Unless someone wants to make it a yearly thing that lots of people do, like NaNoWriMo.

I think it would be a lot of fun to attempt a “100x100x100” run, creating [100 small paintings in 100 days and selling them for $100 each]((http://clintwatson.net/blog/9130/Artist-Brian-Kliewer-A-Case-Study-in-Email-Marketing) like Brian Kliewer did, but I think I’m going to save that for later. This exercise is more about getting into the habit of creating something on a daily basis, whether I feel like it or not.

So, along with growing a mustache to raise money for prostate cancer research for Team Nash Stache, this is going to be one crazy, creative (and hopefully not too itchy) month!

What an awesome idea! This has inspired me. I’ve been geeking out over rough sketches lately, so maybe I’ll do 30 sketches in 30 days. Or…30 in 26… Either way, it gets me drawing. :-)

  3. Thanks! I’m glad I inspired you. I still have 26 left to do, myself. Although while I was waiting for Illustrator to save and print a complex file I got a little bit of preparatory drawing done for some small 5” x 7” paintings.
