The Blog

This One’s a Doozy

For the few of you who are still reading this blog (Feedburner reports that there are zero subscribers at the moment, though that may be due to my own carelessness, as you will see below) you may have noticed the blog went down. As in, not there. Gone.

See, last week I made a doozy of a goof-up when trying to set up a website for my wife and me to update to keep the world (a/k/a our parents and sisters) informed about our little girl who should be arriving in about ten days or so. I was trying to remove and reinstall the WordPress install for the site, and accidentally removed the install for /blog. I have all my sites under the same account, so I could see them all right there. It was about 1 in the morning, and I was exhausted and frustrated with a fancy plugin, and whoops there went the entire blog on my website. D’oh!

Fortunately I was able to rescue my posts! I simply pulled up the feed in Google Reader and found everything. I still had all the folder structure from the previous install, so linking the images was a simple matter. It just took about 2 hours of copying and pasting and slight formatting to get everything back up and running again. It’s just embarassing that I wiped out my blog! I’m just glad, thankful, and fortunate that I was able to get it running again. The only downside is I don’t have a record of the comments, so comments are gone. And I’m not entirely sure how I had the sidebar set up, and I know for sure I had a different set of Categories, but I think the list is a lot more streamlined now.

But again, I’m glad it’s up and running again, before midnight! I can sleep now. ;-) Oh, and WordPress 2.7 is pretty awesome. I like it.

Don’t you have the database backup manager plugin? I get a copy of my DB in an e-mail every Monday…

  2. Hmm, that’s an idea… I’ll have to look into that. Thanks!
