Vintage Logos from the 1970s

Vintage Logos

This has been posted a few other places, such as on 43 Folders (where I first found it), ISO50, and Brand New. It all started with a Flickr photo set, and it is available in PDF form at Logo Blink.

It’s pretty impressive that these logos from the 1970s are all one-color and work so well in just one color, as opposed to today’s swooshy bevelled gradient logos. I suppose logo designers in the 70s were under more pressure to make their logos work in black and white since four-color printing was more expensive in those days, as opposed to today, when a logo is more likely to appear on a color screen somewhere. But I just love that Late Modern design aesthetic, where extra-bold elements on a grid meshed with fun gloopy shapes. There are times I want to design something like that, and I’m waiting for the right project to come along where that sort of approach is appropriate.
